zoey’s 3rd birthday
i can’t believe our baby ginger is 3 years old! it has been such a delight watching her grow into her own little person. she’s spunky, smart, imaginative and has a seriously hilarious sense of humor… she amazes and inspires me every day. love her. anyway, before i get all teary and stuff – back to the party. all she really requested for her birthday was a bounce house and a “chocowate” cake all to herself. done. it was me who decided on the unicorn theme, as we are obsessed with all things unicorn and my little pony. it just seemed fitting. plus – unicorn poop cookies. i may or may not have planned a party around the idea of unicorn poop cookies. okay yes, i absolutely did. because we think poop is funny. and zoey throws the word poop into at least two sentences every day. they make zero sense. for example – “zoey you’re right! that sign is in the shape of a circle. now can you tell me what color it is?” she’ll squint her little eyes, tap her tiny finger on her chin and then – “uuummm… poop?” followed by a ridiculous fit of giggles. see what i mean? thus… unicorn “poop” for her party.
a local park. it was perfect. we had lots of shade and there was plenty of room for the kids to run around. i asked that everyone bring blankets and/or chairs, as i really wanted it to feel like a picnic. also, mark set up a half dome tent that allowed for diaper changes and whatnot.
food + drink
we ordered pizza, but also offered bags of chips/crackers and cups of watermelon. the kiddos sipped on juice boxes while the adults enjoyed margaritas. *thumbs up* a friend of mine made the chocolate cake, over 70 mini cupcakes and the “poop” cookies. amazing. (btw…here’s the poop cookie recipe.) also, i promise not to say poop cookie(s) anymore.
i tried to use items that i already had around the house – mason jars, baskets, a fish bowl, etc – and was as thrifty as possible when necessary. for example: i found pink frames at target for 98 cents, spray painted them gold and typed up the party favor signs. the glittery gold Z O E Y letters – spray painted paper mache. most of the paper goods were purchased from party city or smart & final. oh! and i found the gold number 3 mylar balloon via brickyard buffalo, but that was months ago. you can find them at urban outfitters.
i hired my friend laura from skills + frills to make the fabulous party favors – unicorn horns, temporary tattoos, bubbles and the packaging for the cookies. everything was exactly as i had pictured it! and ps. laura and her team are amazing! if you’re planning a party (whether you live in the area or not) and need a little assistance on the creativity front – contact laura at skillsandfrills (at) gmail (dot) com. also, if you live locally – check out their brick and mortar work shop – design bar studios – they host crafting parties and workshops on everything crafty from photography to woodworking.
overall, i think the party was a big success. it seemed like everyone was having fun! but what do i know, i was drinking margaritas and pushing kids out of the bounce house. heh!
and also, amen to pinterest for keeping me inspired. i’m already pinning party ideas for next year’s soiree.
i hope you enjoyed my little recap. if you have any questions, let me know!
